A partnership for progress
Bristol Law Society (BLS) and Landmark Information have joined forces to help law firms of all sizes begin their journey toward net zero. As the first of the “Joint V” regional law societies to take this step, BLS is setting a strong example, showing that sustainability is a shared responsibility and a strategic priority for the legal profession.
This partnership is about more than reducing carbon footprints. It’s about giving firms the tools, knowledge, and support they need to take meaningful climate action, starting now.
Leading by example
Founded in 1770, BLS is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected regional law societies. In recent years, it has placed sustainability at the heart of its strategy, from launching a Sustainable Business Award in 2021 to supporting firms with green office transitions.
BLS began its net zero journey to lead by example. Climate change, client expectations, and regulatory pressures were key drivers, with the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting how quickly positive change is possible. The Law Society’s 2023 Climate Change Risk guidance (Part A), reinforced this direction, making climate awareness a professional responsibility.
“As a real estate energy solicitor based in Bristol, a city widely recognised as one of the UK’s greenest and most collaborative, I see first-hand how environmental responsibility is reshaping client expectations and professional standards.” – Coralie McKeivor, President of the Bristol Law Society
Introducing the BLS Green Badge Initiative
To help firms take action, Landmark is working with BLS to launch the BLS Green Badge Initiative, a new programme designed to support and celebrate law firms on their net zero journey.
It will offer practical tools, guidance, and incentives to make sustainability more accessible and rewarding.
“The Green Badge Initiative, in partnership with Landmark, is more than a ‘badge’. It is a call to action for firms of all sizes to lead with purpose, collaborate across the profession, and ensure our work contributes positively to the communities and ecosystems we serve. This is about action not just aspiration, and it’s inspiring to see our legal community unite around a shared purpose: to build a greener, fairer future.” – Coralie McKeivor
